Perumal Malai Near Trichy and Thuraiyur

Beautiful small hill very close to Thuraiyur near Trichy. You can  drive up the hill or take the steps. There are close to 1500+ steps. On the main road, where you see the Arch and the entrance, there is a Govindaraja Perumal Temple. Both these temples are very ancient and believed to be built by King Karigal Cholan. Year not known, but believed to be built around 15th century. There is also the famous Karupanna Swamy temple and ancient Ilanda Tree ("Indian Jujube").

This is the very famous temple in the region "Prasanna Venkachalapathi Temple". This temple is also called "South Tirupathi" (Then Tirupathi). Whoever not able to visit Tirupathi due to any reasons, can visit this temple and worship the lord. It is believed that they get all blessings from Lord.

There are beautiful sculptures of Ten Avatar of Lord Vishnu carved on pillars which is really beautiful. There is also a Musical Pillar (or) Sapthaswaram Pillar which produces the svaras SA RI GA MA PA DA NI SA.

There are too many monkeys around, so you need to be extra careful. Once you park your car, they come and sit on top the car looking for something to eat. If you need to carry any Pooja items, carry them in backpack. Just carry a stick with you, they don't come near. You don't need to scare them, carrying a stick is good enough.

At Govindaraja Perumal Temple, Lord Ranganatha swamy on sleeping pose is seen. After visiting this, go inside the Arch. There are small temples on both the road sides for Ramanuja Acharya, Garudazhvar, Panchamuga Anjaneya. Panchamuga Anjaneya statue is relatively very huge in size.

During the month of (Tamil Months)- Purattassi and Margazhi there will be huge crowd. During this Puratasi month on the full moon day, devotees do Girivalam - Walking around this hill temple. Puratasi is from September 15 to Oct 15 and Margazhi month is from Dec 15th to Jan 15th.

When you visit Thuraiyur which is very close to Trichy, you can also visit another famous Hill station named "Kolli Malai" (or) Kolli Hills. We are yet to visit this and will add the detailed blog once we visit. Kolli Hills is famous for the herbs and medicinal plants.

There are two other hill temples in this area which are close by. I have covered them all in separate blogs.

Both the temples are open only on Saturdays. And you need to go on steps(no driveway). It is medium to hard level. Thalamalai don't have any steps you need to trek on mud path.
