You would have seen Tree growing on Rocks in my earlier Blog -
"Trees growing on Rock".
Also you would have heard about parasitic plants growing on the tree. Also in many places you can see trees growing on temple towers (Gopura), old buildings.
But this is very different sighting. Tree on another tree.
Technical term for this phenomenon is Inosculation - Marriage Trees or Husband-Wife Trees.
Refer Wiki. In many templs I have heard that they do marriage for trees when they plant. They grow together - conjoined.
But few other places you can see them growing naturally with the help of birds. Both these sightings can be seen with the photos below.
Most of the places I have seen only
"Ficus Religiosa" (or) "Arasa Maram (Tamil)" (or) "Kings tree", (Refer Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficus_religiosa ) growing over the trees. This Ficus Religiosa has some special characteristics and cling to other tree and grows over it.
See the pictures below. I have seen this during my visits to Topslip, Near a Pollachi village side road, Pondicherry and also before Krishnagiri in Bangalore-Salem NH.
How amazing to see a tree clinging and growing on another tree. Yes it is really surprising.
The nature is amazing, beautiful and complex to understand. Admire the nature....
Update (13th Jul 2014):
Recently we had been to Kokkare Bellur (
"Link to my Blog Post") and this is seriously shocking and amazing. Yes, there were two trees on on a tree. Neem tree and Palm tree(Eecha maram in tamil) both growing on the Ficus Religiousa (Arasa Maram in Tamil). And in another sighting, we have seen the Ficus Religiousa growing literally above the Neem Tree. Again this Ficus Religiousa has some special characteristics. See below for the photos.
